My family and I have visited Universal Studios Florida frequently over the years. After staying at several of the Universal properties, I believe Sapphire Falls is the best resort for your family vacation to Universal Orlando.

Location, Location, Location

When you look at the map of Universal Studios Florida, you’ll notice that there are several resort options around the Universal CityWalk area, which is the gateway to both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. Along the Waterway, you’ll find four main resorts: Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, and Sapphire Falls. A bit further back, away from the Waterway, are the more budget-friendly options: Cabana Bay, Aventura, and the Endless Summer Resorts (Dockside and Surfside).

The value and prime value resorts—Endless Summer, Aventura, and Cabana Bay—are typically more affordable, with rates around $96 per night at Endless Summer and $140 per night at Aventura and Cabana Bay. However, these resorts are set back from the main action, meaning you’ll need to take a bus to get to CityWalk and the parks. While this is still a convenient option, it means waiting for transportation at the end of a long day when everyone is tired and ready to return.

In contrast, Sapphire Falls, along with Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, and Portofino Bay, is located along the Waterway, giving you the luxury of walking back to your resort or taking a relaxing water taxi. After a fun-filled day at the parks, being able to simply stroll back to your resort without the hassle of waiting in line for a bus is a huge plus.

The Price Difference

Now, let’s talk about the cost. The premier resorts—Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, and Royal Pacific—offer the added benefit of Universal Express Passes, allowing you to skip the lines in the parks. However, these resorts come at a premium price, with rates ranging from $312 per night at Royal Pacific to $372 per night at Portofino Bay.

On the other hand, Sapphire Falls offers a fantastic middle ground. With an average nightly rate of $202, it’s significantly more affordable than the premier resorts, yet it shares the same prime location along the Waterway. While Sapphire Falls doesn’t include the Universal Express Passes, it provides the convenience of easy access to the parks without the hefty price tag of the premier options.

Why Sapphire Falls Stands Out

In addition to its ideal location and reasonable price, Sapphire Falls boasts some amazing amenities that make it a great choice for families. The pool at Sapphire Falls is enormous—just as large as those at the premier resorts—providing plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy a swim.

My family and I had an incredible time during our stay at Sapphire Falls. It offers the perfect blend of convenience and affordability, making it the sweet spot between the premier and value resorts. You get the benefit of being close to the parks and CityWalk, the option to walk or take a water taxi, and a beautiful resort atmosphere—all without breaking the bank.

Final Thoughts

While every Universal Orlando resort has its charm, Sapphire Falls hits that perfect balance between location, amenities, and price. It’s ideal for families who want to be close to the action without paying top dollar for a premier resort.
